Te Mana o te Wai
Introductory Te Mana o te Wai Guidance to support hapū and iwi to develop Te Mana o te Wai Statements for drinking water, stormwater and wastewater.
Poipoia recognise the uncertainty created by the change in Government and recent coalition agreement announcements. We are committed to taking action that supports hapū, iwi and Landowners to restore, protect, maintain and sustain Te Oranga o te Taiao and Te Mana o te Wai. As these concepts exist outside of policy as mātauranga at place.
This Guidance is to support and amplify the voice of hapū, iwi and landowners in retaining and protecting Te Mana o te Wai within your takiwa.
Despite changes in Government, the Crown obligation to Te Tiriti remains and our work in supporting hapū and iwi to protect rights and interests in Freshwater and other taonga will continue.
This Guidance was developed in respect of previous water infrastructure reforms. These have now been replaced, however this Guidance provides a potential process for hapū and iwi to articulate their position in relation to Te Mana o te Wai as it pertains to the current reform process, now called ‘Local Water Done Well’.
